John comes to Emma’s Torch from Green-Wood where he was the Director of Development and Public Engagement. Leading Green-Wood’s fundraising efforts, he wrote grants and stewarded gifts; managed annual fundraiser galas, membership, and annual appeal campaigns; and acted as point-person for city funding efforts. To aid in his fundraising work for Emma’s Torch, John will lean on this experience, as well as his time as a development professional with the Waterfront Museum, filmmij (a not-for-profit Dutch documentary film production company), and the St. Louis Effort for AIDS.
John earned a BA from Evergreen College, did coursework at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Malcolm X College, and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking (and eating!), practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and making art. John spent much of life in restaurant work, both front and back of house, and is proud to put his fundraising chops to work to help folks in need get high-end training and job placement in this field.
